“Landon is a paragon of ‘guidesmanship.’ We have fished all season in a variety of waters, and Landon delivers! His intensity is balanced with patience and a wry sense of humor. He seeks not only to catch big fish, but big fish caught well. Landon knows his craft, does his homework, imparts wisdom, and has fun. I can’t think of a better way to spend a day.”
John P. Garrett - Chicago

"I first fished with Landon when I signed up for an “intro to fly fishing class” at one of the fly shop’s he guides for. I had fished with one or two guides before, but by far Landon seems to posses not only the most knowledge to catch fish, but the ability to teach complete novices to do so as well.
"Since then I have fished with only Landon and we always seem to catch BIG fish! Landon says I am the one who brings the luck, but there is no doubt in my mind that is him and his “fish RADAR” that gets us to the big ones. It is one thing to find and hook big fish, it is entirely another to land and release them safely with as little impact on the fish as possible. Landon has taught me the skills to do that very thing, and I use these skills each and every day that I am on the river."

"Early in December of 2005 I walked into the Peak Fly Shop, in Colorado Springs, Co. to buy my sons Bryan and Darin a gift for Christmas. I asked Brad Tomlinson, the proprietor, if he could recommend a guided trip for trophy class trout. He suggested a day trip with Landon Mayer on the South Platt River. We called Landon and he asked me what we wanted to get out of the trip. We told him that we wanted to learn to be better fly fisherman, have fun and catch a big trout.
"After talking to Landon it was agreed that we would shoot for the last week in March. As luck would have it, the weather and river conditions were not cooperating . Landon called and told me he would monitor the river and call when conditions looked improved. He did just that. Landon took us to a little fished section of the river. As we walked, Landon explained how he read the river and what we should be looking for how to spot fish. He talked about the spawning cycle and the food supply. Landon showed us the proper technique for fighting a big trout. He was even able to help me improve my casting. My son Bryan instantly hooked up with a 20 inch Rainbow. Next Bryan and Darin had a double hook up with fish over 18 inches. Then I got into the act. At the end of the day we had caught and released about 30 very nice rainbow and brown trout . But more importantly we came away better fly fisherman and had a wonderful experience. To put it in my son’s words “we had a epic day!”
"If you are looking for a great day in some of the most beautiful country in the nation, contact Landon Mayer."
Gary Brooks - Monument, Colo
"Absolutely phenomenal! Landon Mayer is light-years ahead of his peers when it comes to practical techniques for catching fish – especially big fish. He has the unique ability to combine the science of a fish’s behavior with the art of fly-fishing, arming his clients with a potent mix of knowledge and techniques that deliver success. Everything from the sighting of a fish, to the positioning and presentation, and finally to win the battle that ensues, Landon simply does it all well. Even more, he possesses the patience and passion to teach others to do it too. Landon is a future leader in our sport. I highly recommend him for anyone that wants to improve their knowledge and skills…not to mention the great time you will have with him catching more fish!"
John Burger - Tampa, Florida
"I booked a day with Landon for me and my 9-year-old son Charlie, so we could continue to improve our skills and so we could hopefully get Charlie onto some nice big trout. Landon took us to the Dream Stream section of the Platte, tied on hatch-matched bugs before getting to the river, and within minutes we were sight casting to big rainbows, cutbows, and browns. Landon has a rare gift: he's a world class fisherman, a great teacher, very kind and patient and encouraging to youngsters, and fun to spend the day with. The highlight of the day was Charlie's fight to land a 20", brightly colored 4-5 lb brown trout, a fight that took us down about a quarter mile of stream, around many obstacles, and finally to the net. Last year, Charlie and I would have lost that fish.....but with Landon's tutoring, we landed it and it was Charlie's biggest fish ever.....or like he put it himself...."my biggest fish, SO FAR!" If you're looking to land the biggest trout you've ever caught (and if you're not, what's wrong with you?!), get out on the water with Landon, it's worth every penny.
Thanks, Landon, you're the best and we can't wait to go out again with you this Fall when the browns move up to spawn!"

"After spending multiple days on the water with Landon I knew my knowledge
gained from our trips would be rewarded with large trout and more productive
days. This is why I decided to extend my trips with him to three full days
in the spring of 07. After two days of quality fishing with some great
fish, my third day held true to the idea that the third time is the charm.
I ended the day holding four fish ranging from seven to twelve pounds and
all on 6x tippet! I still can't believe it. If you are looking to
encounter some of the largest trout you have ever seen, and use Landon's
knowledge to get them in the net, then you need to spend a day on the water
with Landon and you will see huge results as I did!"
